Fairgrounds – There is nothing new at this time. Heather will be attending the January meeting next Thursday.
CTEP – The sidewalks will get fixed. The contractors haven't been paid yet.
License Plate Fundraiser – Heather presented a design. The design looks great! It was suggested to remove "CHINOOK" from the design and move the Sugarbeeter to make it bigger. Bonnie suggested to talk to Miles City to see if they have any advice on what to do different.
New Businesses – New businesses to be contacted: Amanda (the Shop), Just Us Construction, and Levy Jones. Bonnie and Sarah were going to try to contact these business owners.
Business After Hours – The Chinook Alliance Church will host the Business After Hours next week. The Business After Hours is booked through September. The Chamber is looking into how to get more interest in these events.
Flashing Lights –There is nothing new at this time. The Montana DOT said that if they were already doing work in the area, they will put up lights.
Sugarbeet Festival Sponsors – Of the 4 remaining unpaid sponsors, 2 have now paid, leaving 2 left unpaid.
Shelving – Shelving units for the storage room have been approved, but they still need to be purchased.
Chamber Bucks – Shannon will contact Steve Edwards to put an article in the paper about old (greater than 3 years) Chamber Bucks. The Chamber would like to exchange old Chamber Bucks for new ones to help clear up the bookkeeping.
Annual Banquet – Gayle Fisher will be coming to speak at the Banquet. She will not charge the Chamber a fee for this. She will talk about tourism and promoting the area. Bonnie will put some door prizes together for the Banquet. In order to try to boost attendance to the Banquet, the Chamber member list will be split among the board members, and each will call the members on their list with a personal invitation.
Dinner Menu – Option #4 ($12.00) was chosen for the dinner menu. Shannon will contact Val Frank to let her know the menu option. The Chamber is willing to guarantee 55 plates, but 60-70 are expected.
Membership Letters and Mailing – The letters are written and ready to be printed as soon as this year's board members are finalized.
Insurance – The insurance for the Chamber went up substantially. This is due to the increase in memberships and the special events.
Officer Nominations – Shannon resigned as Secretary. Jenn nominated Sarah Pratt for secretary. There were no objections. The Chamber now has a vacancy for the position of Reporter. All other positions remain the same. Sarah moved to accept the slate of officers, and Bonnie seconded. Motion passed.
Meeting adjourned at 7:18.
Grant Writing – Bridgette will get in touch with Heather once she is done with School.
Grants – Heather brought to the groups attention that there is a couple grants that may be worth looking into – one being Northwest Farm Credit Services Rural Community Grant Program. Heather has the paperwork if anyone is interested in writing it.
LARGE SUGARBEET STATUE - Colleen had brought a photograph of a large sugar beet that she had encountered in her travels and was wondering if something would be possible to add to our Visitors Center as a unique draw. We will be discussing later on when the building is complete and operational.
Notary Training - Tabled at this time - do not know if we will have enough interest in it to justify bringing the trainer down.
Marquees - The PTO has decided to take some of the funds for the Marquees and use for another project. The Chamber decided to hold off on the marquees until we have a visitor’s center/rest area to place it at.
Lights on the Tower
Anita DePriest Magnuson sent Heather a cutout of a Newspaper Article from Junction City, Oregon where they have succeeded in lighting up their water towers with LED lights that can change and be programmed to move and rotate. It was agreed that it was a neat idea and would be tabled until we had available funding to do a project of that magnitude. Heather will contact Chuck and see if he is interested in spearheading the project. <http://junctioncity.kval.com/content/eugene-company-helps-light-junction-city-water-tower>.
Strategic Alliance of Montana Chambers - Heather contacted SAMC and notified them of our interest in the project. We will wait to hear from them on when we will be doing training in our area.
American Prairie Foundation
It was talked about at the meeting for our approach on this subject, and we decided to help encourage people to get educated on the subject and to express your opinion. The officers of the group decided to let the Stockgrowers and the CattleWomen do the public viewing of the movie with a speaker, etc. It was a unanimous opinion of the group that it will affect businesses and could directly affect each and every one of us. Heather will contact Lori Swanson.
Fran Hodgson sent Heather a link in July that showcased Cut Bank’s murals through town. She would like to suggest that Chinook look into it. The link is: <http://www.kfbb.com/news/local/92734869.html>. Tabled at this time.
Signs Outside of town
The signage has been tabled still since the input we received from Krystal Steinmetz regarding CTEP. Heather will work directly with Krystal on this project
Sugarbeet Festival Suggestions
Send Night at the Museum invitations to school on Friday with kids.
Move Night at the Museum to 8:30 or 8:00 p.m. instead of 9:00.
Make sure we talk to Finley's about shutting off lights at the store.
Seating on Main Street - possible bleachers?
When listing sponsors, put the Hi-Line Tavern Association instead of Mint Bar
In 2015, the BBQ served 200 people - should plan for 275ish.
Tables and chairs for people to sit and eat at during the day
Have all of the ribbons, Chamber Bucks, and coins in envelopes with event name, place, etc. before the event.
Have announcers stand separate from live music trailer if possible.
Order vinyl banner for Napa and Hi-Line Tavern Association when ordering banners (also NCMSGA and Cattlewoman).
Look-a-like contest should be discontinued.
Some sandwich boards should be made/purchased to place throughout the festival, directing participants to activities/events.
The music should be moved to the other side of the street (Finley's)
More helpers are needed, especially during the parade to keep kids from running into the street. Possibly contact volunteers from the membership drive.
About 30 more wasp catchers are needed.
One or 2 people should announce events all day long (Kevin Elias).
The Chamber would like to have 8 or 10 8 foot tables to put out.
Chamber Christmas Tree for next year - Jenn would like to explore the possibility of purchasing one of the trees from the Festival of Trees for the Chamber next year.
Parade of Lights/Festival of Trees Suggestions
Smaller trees - 5' or less
Dennis Lkeinjan and Larry Surber both for teams/wagon rides if nice
Sled races - use hill by Ham's Self Storage - make sure to get at least 6 adults and preferrably some barracades to stop traffic.
2017 Annual Banquet - January 21 or 28. Russell Nemetz Speaker.
Bleachers – Heather is looking for bleachers.
