2011 January

Meeting, January 3rd, 2011 - Chinook, Montana - Pastime Lounge

Special Officers Viewing of the Movie "American Serengety"  - 6:00 p.m.

RECORDED COMMENTS (Recorded Comments are on file at the Chamber Office):
The general discussion immediately following the Viewing of the Movie "American Serengety" by National Geographic stated that the majority of those present at the meeting, agreed that by purchasing the land that the American Prairie Foundation are seeking, it will immensely hurt the business communities along the hi-line.  The Chamber of Commerce voted to help raise awareness of the mission of the American Prairie Foundation and to try and make the community realize what could occur.  We do not take a stand on the matter either way, until a poll is released for our members.  Once we receive results of a poll, the Chamber will stand in the direction of the winning results.  Frank Pehrson moved to help raise awareness with articles and information, and Heather 2nd.  We are seeking to place a public viewing of the movie sometime in February or March and will write newspaper articles and do interviews with radio stations in the area.

OLD BUSINESS

CTEP
Heather is working with the City and Bear Paw Development regarding this project.  The project cost is more than anticipated and Heather met with Krystal Steinmetz and Lorraine Mulonet, and the next step is to take photos of the corners and the sidewalks and prioritize which ones are the worst for the 2011-2012 project.  Once the snow clears from the sidewalks, photos will be taken of main street from 6th to Hwy 2.

Annual Banquet
It was moved to have Jay pick the date and facilitate the event.  Will report on at next meeting.  It was moved by Heather and 2nd by Max to have Anne Boothe be the speaker at this years  Banquet.

Signs on the Outskirts of Town
Bids have been coming in regarding the signage, and we have tabled the project until the bids are all in.

Visitors Center
Casey Jones from Northwest Security has ordered our door unlock kit and will be installing it in March or April when the weather clears.

SBA Award Nominations
Still waiting to hear about our nominations for the Diemert s and Bonnie Weber.

Adopt a Highway
Heather sent in the paperwork for the Adopt a Highway Program - waiting to hear from the state on approval.

Tables and Chairs
We will be scheduling a time to stencil the remaining 150 tables and chairs and will do it sometime in February.  Heather has scheduled stenciling to occur February 22nd at 5:00 p.m.

Cell Phone Towers
Kassie McIntosh informed Heather that a town on the Hi-Line received a cell phone tower by getting some land donated and petitioning some signatures.  Heather emailed the Liberty County Chamber regarding this issue but has not heard back from them.  She will call.  It was discussed that waiting until January would be beneficial to our argument with AT&T, because if we decline in service coverage, we will have a valid argument.  Tabled until next meeting.

NEW BUSINESS

Strategic Alliance of Montana Chambers - Heather received an email from the SAMC stating that they are proposing a Workman s Compensation Group Program if the Chinook Chamber is interested in participating.  It was voted on unanimously and moved by Heather to accept the invitation and participate.  It was 2nd by Lori Swanson and voted on unanimous.  Heather will contact SAMC.

Meeting adjourned at 8:12 p.m.

TABLED ITEMS

LARGE SUGARBEET STATUE - Colleen had brought a photograph of a large sugarbeet that she had encountered in her travels and was wondering if something would be possible to add to our Visitors Center as a unique draw.  We will be discussing later on when the building is complete and operational.

Notary Training - Tabled at this time - do not know if we will have enough interest in it to justify bringing the trainer down.

Marquees - The PTO has decided to take some of the funds for the Marquees and use for another project.  The Chamber decided to hold off on the marquees until we have a visitors center/rest area to place it at.

Lambing and Calving Tour
Agreed to continue Lambing and Calving tour this spring.

Festival of Trees
Heather spoke about the possibility of adding a Festival of Trees fundraiser for the Chamber in December and thought it would be a nice addition to the holidays.  She would like to see businesses donate a tree and put gifts underneath of it and auction them at a dinner type setting.  Tabled until next year.
