2008 January

Tuesday, January 29th, 2008 at 7:00 p.m. at Cross Creek Trading  - 520 Indiana Street - Chinook

Members Present:
LuAnn Burkhartsmeyer, Heather DePriest, Max Hofeldt, Larry Surber, Colleen Mulonet (Kralich Insurance), Frank Pehrson Jr.

Guests: Travis Buck, Larry & Bobbi Jo Klingaman

Discussions:
Chamber is out of money - need a fundraiser to help fund projects.  Discussed to set up a 50/50 Raffle that will benefit the chamber and we will draw for the wimnner at the Chamber Banquet to be held late April.  Decided to sell 5 for $20 or $5 each.

Storage Shed Update:
Larry to check on the storage shed to see when it will be done.

Old Business:
Burn Barrels - Max Hofeldt - Told his side of the story and how he attempted to get the firefighters and approval from the City.  We will go to the city council next year for re-approval with a fireman at each barrel.  (4 total)

New Business:
Grants - Chairs given to the chamber from school - Larry secured these in our name.
Heather would like to see 501c status for the Chamber of Commerce to help achieve more awarding with the Grants.  Majority of the grants prefer non-profit status, not worth it for us to apply for majority of the grants, as they will not award to us without a federal number.  Cost is around $1500 to apply for non-profit according to Kassie McIntosh - would like to see some funds go toward that cost.  We need to find out what the cap for income is as to not file taxes every year - Heather will call Kassie.   Chuck to see if we can be listed under the state chamber status.  Chuck Hewitt stated he would pay  half the fee.

Chinook Brochure - Chinook needs a new one.  Heather to get old ones and model a new one from it.

Governors Conference on Tourism - West Yellowstone this year - Chuck and Larry going.

Cooperative Type Store - Chuck - Wants to open a store featuring hi-line products - would like members of the chamber to come up with a list of entrepreneurs that may want to have a part in the store.

Sugarbeet Festival Theme - Cattlewomen or the Grain Growers?  Chuck to ask Amanda Davies for next meeting info.  Decided we need to know by March 1st.

Installation Banquet - Need to determine when to have it and make sure that the wildlife museum banquet doed not conflict.  Nominating Jay and Rita to handle this year - as did last.  Heather will call them and ask.

Next Meeting - Thursday, February 28th.

By-Laws of the Chamber - Thought Bonnie might have them, Heather to call and ask.  LuAnn does not have them and neither does Frank P.

Motions and Votes:
LuAnn moved to accept the previous minutes.
Max 2nd
Voted on unanimously.

Treasurers Report:
LuAnn Burkhartsmeyer - Stated that we went in the negative this year - we really need to watch our spending on the Sugarbeet Festival next year.  $618.11 in Checking Account at Wells Fargo.

Meeting was adjourned at 8:34 p.m.
